EU customs exemption on small packets

The current exemption from import tax from non EU countries on small packets with a total value of less than €150 will be removed on the 1st July 2026 and replaced with a fixed fee per item. This will change again in 2028 when full and correct import tax will be levied on all imports. So, get those AliExpress and Temu orders in now

Funny thing with a Temu order.

Because I could, I made a purchase of a thingo costing +/- €15, paying in 4 interests-free monthly installments. The item duly arr’d. Some time later TEMU refunded the 3 instalments I’d paid because they reckoned my thingo had not arr’d by a certain date - tho’ it had, easily.

The final payment is due on Monday week. I wonder if that will not be drawn…

Talking of Chinese scams, another purchase, delivered despite me trying to cancel the order the Sunday morning after the Saturday afternoon purchase, because, as I’d realised in the dead of night it was a scam, not made of hand-stitched leather in a French atelier, reduced by 80%, but ‘plastic’ in a PRC factory.

I was told I could return it. I’d seen someone’s complaint - bought from this same mob - they specified the return procedure €33+ on a €60 item.

It arrived. I didn’t have to sign for it. It was left in my ‘boite’. I started sending the sellers increasingly irritated queries as to when this thing would turn up. Eventually they refunded 100% - lost in the post.

Scammers scammed.
