At back-to-back elections the Front National came top in the national elections - and a communist was elected mayor. The outgoing mayor, Jacques Cestor, had been re-elected 6 times - and is black. His analysis of the FN vote: “I’m well placed to tell you this is not a racist vote. It just tells you that people are pissed off!”
