I understand that saving extra minutes on an annual trip and the extra value you put on those “annual leave” minutes is very important to you when you chose your new car. Did you place any value on the ecological, human and political cost of burning oil for transport?
I was far more worried about what you might say and how you would choose to tell me off.
I am sat in the dentists waiting room with a broken tooth and feeling grumpy (or one of the other six
) so am tempted to say something but I feel I have already exceeded my boredom quotient on this subject.
Regardless of our views on EVs I hope all goes well with the dentist.
Agreed, I can’t do more than a couple of hours driving at a stretch. And your brain needs a rest from it as much as your body. On the motorbike I find autoroutes so tiring (droning along at 90kph in the wind) that I stop once an hour for a brief rest and stretch.
That’s a heck of a long wait at the Chunnel… ![]()
I am looking forward to my future EV ownership.
I think the spill chucker picked up on how it feels. ![]()
You’re doing it wrong ![]()
Probably. ![]()
I’d like to think that’s a typo, and it’s 90mph.
Aged 18, I’d swapped my 250 sports bikes for a 125 trailbike, which I rode first to a Boys Brigade camp at Great Holland, then up to a gathering in Harrogate before riding back to London. The bike was just a couple of weeks old, and wanting to look after it, I kept the speed down to about 40-45mph for most of the journey. It was just mind-numbingly boring really, and riding a bike as low speeds is not really fun.
My last bike (30 years ago) was a s/h Honda xr250r trail bike. I bought it mainly for commuting to work but often used it for longer journeys . Anything over 60 mph put quite a strain on the arms ![]()
Since we have talked a little about EV design, this lunchtime I walked past the local Merc dealer and saw The Blob.
It looks so much better in the photo - in the metal it looks like nobody bothered to design the front, and simply smoothed it over. A sort of Germanic homage to Tesla, and yet another dull and featureless car.
Stick the grill back on and it doesn’t look different to their current ICE line up.
I’d describe it as the ugly bulbous offspring of a Karmann Ghia and a Beetle (which may be why it needs those two MB badges on the front).
The problem is that (unlike Teslas) these aren’t E-car bodies that have designed from scratch
Yes it’s amazing what you can do with a couple of tins of Isopon when you have a couple of hours to spend ![]()
Another plus point for EVs. I am looking at the viability of a carport with solar panels to try and become independent of events outside my control
“too early to predict commercial viability”
I can answer that for them ![]()

Germany no less
Will that cause a problem wjth Germany’s labour laws in mining it ? Unlike Africa I would guess sending children down the mine would be outlawed?
Watch out for America deciding it’s a resource they need.
