French accreditation

Those of you working as freelance journalists here in France - do you have French accreditation, or a press pass or are you a member of a union here? What and how, please!

I have run into problems with this as often you need to be a member of the union etc... I email the press dept directly and explain I'm foreign. Usually works and once you're foot is in the door you have references to point to.

Thanks for your reply - am ok on the tax and enterprise side of it all, I'm looking for advice on the journalistic bit - getting a press pass etc if you are freelance.
