French electrics?

Hi all, I hope someone can help me.
We've been here almost 12 years and we're currently renovating our attic, to put 2 bedrooms up there for our boys. All the electrics were in the property when we moved in. There's a feed into the attic but hubby wants to put a trip switch up there for safety. He's doing it as I type...does it still need to be checked by an electrician? He's done electrical work in the past when he's done jobs for people (I'm not saying he's a professional!)
So...does anyone know if this still needs to be checked? Thanks

Thanks very much for the replies everyone, I appreciate it :)

Vicky, my understanding, having enquired with EDF before re wiring our current house, is that if the house is not a new build or if the house is old and has not been disconnected, no work needs any certification or checking. However, given the hoops you have to jump through in France if you are ever unfortunate to need to claim on your insurance, its a good idea for you to get a “Greenie” to run a ruler over the work.

Our electrics were archaic so we had to start from scratch. They had to be inspected and signed off before EDF would connect us to the mains, but only 80% had to be complete, so if you're not adding much I wouldn't worry. We've added plenty since!

there is no actual french law saying it has to be checked by a qualified electrician, as long as the installation meets french code.
