Rona is microchipped and she has a dog tag printed with her chip number on one side and my UK telephone number on the other, in case she strays while we are in the UK.
Belatedly, it has occurred to me that the chip may be of no use.
Can UK vets read French chips?
I-CAD will have her French address, not where we are staying in the UK.
Has anyone faced this issue ? And if so, have you a solution?
Yes. I canât recall i-cad specifically but most registration schemes around the globe have a feature for you to put in an alternative address if you go on holiday for this exact situation, and generally itâs global. Petlog or whatever the Kennel Club one is certainly does and when house hunting and before getting my dogs registered with i-cad the KC actively encouraged me to use this feature so if they got lost in France the French vets etc would contact them as the chip was registered to them, and they could then relay the temporary French contact information.
It should read okay at a UK vets. The passport/rabies are linked to the chip but the UK vet wonât have access to iCAD - not sure chips are âcountryâ coded anyway.
Never had a dog in the UK so no idea how it works.
Definitely, as can the police, dog wardens etc..Like you, we had âmultinationalâ dog tags ie with UK contact details/address on one side and French contact details on the other.
Ironically (given the other threads about calls from unrecognised numbers) I ignored several calls from a Dutch mobile, until I realised it was a kind tourist staying in a nearby gite whoâd found one of our dogs in his garden. We didnât even realise our dog was missing, fondly relying on the gite owners assurances that the garden was of course completely secureâŚ.
