Lovely, but something I miss with having a dog, See them at a distance in the field but they always scarper quick sharp when they spot Jules.

Can you put some temporary stickies on the windows with birdstrike. They obviously see the reflection of sky and clouds and fly ahead. Just some stripes of masking tape on the inside to make birds notice the obstacle will doā¦.

We have loads of narrow bordered bee hawk moths here. In flight and feeding they look just like a tiny humming bird hawk moth. They love the lavender whereas the humming bird hawk moths seem to prefer the buddleia.

Well yes but there are a lot of windows and it used to be only the ones that they could see right through the house, but now it is the others which donāt do that.
Around here they seem to go for a wide variety of plants. Valerian is always in flower from the beginning of Spring onwards, so that is a great delight for them. Then, as summer comes along, other flowers open and offer a change of menu, they pick and choose where they want to slurp.
Each plant seems to have its visitors .. butterflies and, of course, the bees of every shape and variety, honey, bumble etcā¦ they relish what ever is on offer too.
EDIT: not to forget the tiny Bee-Fly which hovers and slurps through its long probiscus and could be mistaken for a teeny-tiny hovver/ hummingbird/hawk moth 
I have some in my garden that go up to giant size. Always left them. Now Iām gratified to know that they are good people - they do look scary though but now Iām glad I always left them

I am doing the same thing. I make sure to refill with water when it gets low. The birds flock to the bowls and itās fun to see them having baths.
Advice from our Prefecture/whereverā¦ was to remove all possibility of āstanding waterā to remove breeding places for mozzies.
Therefore, I empty any remaining water out of the bowls onto the plants every couple of daysā¦ and refill with fresh.
Mind you, Iāve only once seen tiny wriggling thingies in the water.. but Tiger Mozzies can propagate swiftly and I certainly donāt want any of those nasties around here. 
Iām going to get one of those little solar fountain things, apparently mozzies donāt like moving water so that might be ok.
