Hi, my daughter aged 35yrs, married and with a 10yr old daughter lives over here in the lot et Garonne, near Miramont de guyenne, she has been going through a rough time, and is unable to work, so she is stuck at home alone, she is desperate to meet people, and make friends, is there anyone of a similar age who would like to meet up with her for coffee, she only has me( her Mum to talk to). Not to Sound too desperate, but could do with a couple of friends!
Hi Sarah, Thankyou for replying to me, my daughter has tried going to the local bar/cafe, but had no success, she has been here 18 yrs,and does speak french quite fluently, but could do with English speaking friends, still looking thanks Debbie
It's tough I know. It took me a lot of courage to make friends where I live as I moved over alone into a village that I knew but where I didn't have a social life. It is also an area of rural France where very few people can string a sentence together in English.
I was too scared to go bars or restaurants alone so I started with our local café. I went in every day and read the papers. On day 3 the owner served me my expresso without my even asking and the waitress stopped to ask if I was on holiday or living there. From then on people began to say hello and little by little I made friends
I can't comment on other areas of France but I am pleased that I overcame my timidity as the locals here were so welcoming. It also helped me to learn French very quickly. A few years down the line and I have an amazing social life and have now settled down with a lovely French man (even though it has landed me the Mother In Law From Hell. LOL)
