Fuel supplies

Hi All

Just off on holidays in the Lot valley.

Just tried to fill up the car with deisel at the Total garage, as it was a lot cheaper, and they had a 75 euro limit.

As we have been on hols and have not paid any attention to the news, are there issue with supply or is this just a Total issue to ensure they do not run out.

Having a great time so not too worried !!!

Andy

They were queuing at petrol stations off the motorway as we drove from Lot et Garonne north to St Malo. So we just gritted our teeth and paid motorway prices.

They should put a minimum spend, rather than a maximum, to deter those who seem to think they need to top off at every chance they get.

Am wondering whether it is linked to them (Total) keeping prices down (sic) relative to other petrol distribution outlets? There was a whole publicity thing that Total had decided to “help” the public by lowering their prices at the pump since the Iran business kicked off, and maybe this is their way of preventing people from completely filling up so as to distribute to the maximum number of vehicles? I didn’t have any problem filling up completely at our local Super-U a fortnight ago, but since then the car has been sat at the airport.

Super U here locally ran out of diesel last week but was full again a few days later when I went shopping however petrol had gone from €2,25 to €2,34 on Saturday but my son bought his at Total further away at €1,90

I noticed a queue at our local Total service station but they were out of diesel. Still have other service stations around and about- some had run out of diesel but we don’t drive à diesel car and haven’t for years now. We are in Normandie, to the east of the region and not far from the coast/Seine.

Total has a cap on what they charge. So when prices spike they are always packed and they set a limit so they don’t run out.

There is a perceived issue at the moment, which the government says will not be an issue. But many do not believe them so a bit of tension.

As far as I can gather, part of the problem is that France has a shortage of diesel refining capacity, which I found slightly surprising, but perhaps explains why diesel is currently more expensive than petrol.

Meanwhile we’re fairly smug, at least for the moment, because we’re just back from Spain with a full tank, having managed just over 1000 kms on the previous tank.

Try RAF Fairford?

So does the UK - I think two refineries closed not long ago. So now diesel is having to be imported.

One advantage of living less than half an hour from the border and for general shopping too, much cheaper especially meat and household stuff

Mostly from the US and guess who’s talking about banning exports of it, diesel prices are higher now than they’ve ever been in the UK.

About 1/3rd I believe.

Yep, that’s what I read too.

La Jonquera has always had a “frontier town” vibe about it.
More diesel stations per sq km than anywhere else on Earth. (Said he making statistics up)

The old girl on the plastic chair has long gone though but there are still women plying their trade to traffic passing through.

Ahh, more diesel stations and more “Clubs” per sq km that anywhere else.

Probably more trucks run out of diesel on that last hill from Le Boulou than any other bit of m-way too.
I had many nights there in the TIR park, either clearing T2s back in the day, or revising fruit before Xmas. Lots of competition made for some good restaurants.

Yes my BIL who is a tramper and used to run to Barca every week to bring back San Miguel beer to the UK used to park up there before the long climb north to the channel ports. It’s been a long time since he did that run for his own business and now does mostly UK stuff. Lots of hauliers going bust weekly in UK
