Gardening questions and chat!

I just said to dh today I must buy garlic and onions to get in! Sadly after my flop this year I have none of my own to plant.

Thanks for the reminder :+1:

…I’m trying to pre-marinade them… (not).

Thanks for the tip on the varieties!

This morning’s task..thanks @Wozza for the tip on variety

After being very sad when I dug up my first sweet potato I saw today they were all popping out of the ground and dug them up. I’ve not yet weighed them but a decent haul from 9 plants!

Our first frost is coming on Tuesday morning so tomorrow afternoon will be bringing in masses of flowers, peppers, aubergine, chillies and I think there may be a courgette or 2 still lurking!

All I mentioned above plus about 15 chillies, still green but we had on on out pizza Friday and it was hot!

Oh and I’d missed a sweet potato but it was really close to a huge sunflower so there were only 2 smallish ones.

Can’t find the horseradish exchange above, but I’ve been digging some up this afternoon and if you still want some, let me know if in the ground or in the freezer (two different sizes).

Is now a good time or are we better to wait until early spring?

Late autumn seems OK

As the days are getting longer & most gardeners are itching to get started, I thought it’s about time to revive this thread.
Today I’ll be sowing (indoors to start with)
Onions, chilies, peppers, leeks, Spring onions
spinach, parsley & some of my self saved “Bazoches”, lettuces (if anyone whats some seeds I’ll willingly send you some, I have thousands).
To put a bit of colour into this post, here’s what I did yesterday.
Last year I grew beans in this plot & noticed what I think is potassium deficiency, in November I planted garlic, to amend the soil I’ve sprinkled wood ash from the wood burner. The other day, I found a stache of leaves so collected to put on the garden, this will bring carbon into the soil the worms love them & bonus help keep the weeds down.

You’re getting going in good time @wozza ! I think you are noticeably further south than me so I can probably wait a bit.

This week’s task is to do something with the pond-liner and underlay arriving tomorrow. We got the (small) pond dug out in the autumn and I calculated the amount of material really carefully so am more than a bit concerned that the total delivery weight seems to be 100 kg :scream: I wonder what I got wrong…

Later than previous yrs, as I’ve had the cellar floor concreted & they finished last week. Now what’s that got to do with the price of eggs?
Well, I start the sowing off in the kitchen to germinate, then into the cellar under lights & this year I’ve bought a poly tunnel so I can put cold tolerant plants in there when they’re strong enough, plants like onions, leeks, lettuce, cauliflower, peas, B-beans…

@cat & @Obiwan the scions are in the post. I’ve also put a sachet of my home saved Bazoches lettuce seeds in with them.
