Gearing up for Xmas . . . or The Twelve Days of Preparation

Twelve Days of Preparation

On the first day of preparation this is what I bought:

Lots of mundane things,

And a bottle of Ten Year Old Port.

On the second day of preparation,

My daughter Skyped to say,

She was bringing a Trader Joe’s Care Package to go with the Ten Year Old Port

On the third day of preparation, I bought a Lovely Xmas Tree,

Made a place for the Trader Joe’s Care Package

And had a sip of the Ten Year Old Port

On the fourth day of preparation, I bought a box of Foil Wrapped Santas,

To hang on the the Lovely Xmas Tree branches

Next to the place for the Trader Joe’s Care Package

And had a sip of the Ten Year Old Port

On the fifth day of preparation, I bought a Big Fat Goose for Roasting,

Admired the Foil Wrapped Santas

That hung on the the Lovely Xmas Tree branches

Next to the place for the Trader Joe’s Care Package

And had a sip of theTen Year Old Port

On the sixth day of preparation, I bought some Chestnuts Brown and Glossy

To stuff the Big Fat Goose for Roasting.

Bit the head off a Foil Wrapped Santa

That hung from the the Lovely Xmas Tree branches

Next to the place for the Trader Joe’s Care Package

And checked the level of the Ten Year Old Port

On the seventh day of preparation, I bought a Pound of Spicy Sausage

To mix with the Chestnuts Brown and Glossy

That I’ll stuff in the Big Fat Goose for Roasting.

Ate the body of the headless Foil Wrapped Santa

That hung on the the Lovely Xmas Tree branches

Next to the place for the Trader Joe’s Care Package

And swigged down some Ten Year Old Port

On the eighth day of preparation, I made a Dozen Delicious Mince Pies

I’ll serve them after the Pound of Spicy Sausage

That I’ll mix with the Chestnuts Brown and Glossy

And stuff in the Big Fat Goose for Roasting.

Decapitated another Foil Wrapped Santa

That hung from the Lovely Xmas Tree Branches

Next to the place for the Trader Joe’s Care Package

And poured myself some Ten Year Old Port

On the ninth day of preparation I bought some Aromatic and Gooey Cheeses

To have after the Dozen Delicious Mince Pies

And after the Pound of Spicy Sausage

That I’ll mix with the Chestnuts Brown and Glossy

And stuff in the Big Fat Goose for Roasting.

Ate two more Foil Wrapped Santas

That hang from the Lovely Xmas Tree branches

Next to the place for the Trader Joe’s Care Package

Washed it down with more Ten Year Old Port

On the tenth day of preparation, I bought some Fancy Savory Crackers

To eat with the Aromatic and Gooey Cheeses

After the Dozen Delicious Mince Pies

And following the Pound of Spicy Sausage

That I’ll mix with the Chestnuts Brown and Glossy

And stuff in the Big Fat Goose for Roasting.

Looked for lurking Foil Wrapped Santas

That hang from the Lovely Xmas Tree branches

Next to the place for the Trader Joe’s Care Package

And finished off the Ten Year Old Port

On the eleventh day of preparation, I felt a Ravenous Hunger

Which caused me to eat the Aromatic and Gooey Cheeses

They went well with the Fancy Savory Crackers

I devoured the Dozen Delicious Mince Pies

Cooked up the Pound of Spicy Sausage,

Resisted the Chestnuts Brown and Glossy,

Defrosted the Big Fat Goose for Roasting

Found the last of the Foil Wrapped Santas

That used to hang from the Lovely Xmas Tree Branches

Next to the place for the Trader Joe’s Care Package.

Too bad there’s no more Ten Year Old Port

On the twelfth day of preparation, I bought a Box of Maalox

Should have ignored the Ravenous Hunger,

Not to mention the Aromatic and Gooey Cheeses

That went with the Fancy Savory Crackers

I really ate a Dozen Delicious Mince Pies?

Not to mention the Pound of Spicy Sausage?

At least there’s the Chestnuts Brown and Glossy,

And the bones of the Goose for Roasting

Alas, no more Foil Wrapped Santas

Hanging from the Lovely Xmas Tree Branches

Next to the place for the Trader Joe’s Care Package,

But I’m buying another bottle of Ten Year Old Port

Merry Xmas!
