I should have said it has happened on different computers with different keyboards over the years. Microsoft Word seems to be a common element. Although it has happened surprisingly on my new laptop using Libre Office. I like to think it’s a computer gremlin, but it clears up on both computers with a restart.

Thanks, I’ll try that next time it happens.

Yes, I should have read the symptoms more closely - it does sound like that is what is happening.

Have I entered a parallel universe? I came here to ask a question and saw that the OP was made in 2010. The first reply was in 2016 and several more replies followed but scrolling backwards in time through 2015 and 2014 until I got to the last but one post, back in 2010 again.

Finally a post from somebody I recognise, but on the 21st of October, no year mentioned.

All I wanted to ask is, because I need a photocopy of my marriage certificate in order to claim extra pension, and my copier isn’t big enough, do most Notaires have larger ones? I have to get it stamped and signed there.

If you need a notarised copy then I would imagine most Notaires will have an A3 copier that will cope.

Otherwise you might find one at the Mairie that is available for use.

Or at an “instant print” shop?

Thanks for that both of you, all but two are too far away from me and one exception is in a hamlet with no shops or services so will need some investigation. There is one fairly close but in the opposite direction to the Notaire, who I think I will phone first on Monday.

The letter from the pension people said only original documents will be accepted unless a photocopy is stamped and signed by a notaire or others. The only one we had, and I have, is itself a copy signed and stamped by the registrar at the original office, 10 years after our marriage, so I’m hoping a photocopy of that will be acceptable. Absolutely no idea why we needed it or how and when we lost the original, but it must have been long before we moved here, so no point in searching further.

We used a photocopier at Auchan to create A3 size copies of our marriage certificate. (Too long for A4.). Then we had it stamped and signed at our village Mairie. No probs.

Actually, we made 6 copies. Just handy for possible future needs.

I recommend this as an easy route.

That thought had crossed my mind because the original site of a photocopier in our next village had one so I presume they took it up the street to the new one, but not sure if it would take the long document. I’ll go tomorrow and see.

A few days ago, I had 3 red EJP days, and all was well, but when I switched on an electric radiator on another later day, a green day, the radiator wouldn’t come alive.

I had a look in the meter cupb’d, didn’t touch anything, and something in there started clicking quite loudly. I had a quick look at the nearest radiator and its red indicator light was on. A few seconds later there was more clicking from the meter cupb’d and the radiator switched off.

So, I have to assume that the clicking is related to the central heating circuitry, inside the meter cupb’d, and that the heating ON switch is unable to be properly activated by the Linky meter.

I shan’t do anything except find an electrician to deal with it. The fuse board, or whatever you call it, is old, dusty, cobwebby and difficult to reach. I’m sure the electrician will want to replace it with something up-to-date and safer.

I have other means of heating so won’t go without.

Thanks.

I have a problem with a Micro Tybox battery J-version central heating control box. The little window is blank despite me twiddling with the controls, which also don’t seem to work. If I want the central heating off or on, I have to remove/put back the box’s front cover, or switch on/off all the radiators.

The control box connects ok, but why would the controls & the window not work? I have replaced the batteries with new.

I can get a second-hand replacement from leboncoin, which I’d prefer to a uptodate version.

Hard to say - I take it from your comment " I have replaced the batteries with new" it’s the battery not the mains powered version. In which case I would start by making sure the batteries are, indeed, fresh and that here is no corrosion on the terminals.

The batteries are new and not the problem. I’ll have a look at the terminals tomorrow. What I did see is an earth wire not connected to anything, and it’s end has been cut clean & square as if it was not meant to be connected to anything.

Must admit I can’t find much info on the “Tybox J” - just this single PDF

Microtyb_j_h_filaire.pdf (105.8 KB)

If I look on the Delta Dore site I can’t find anything for the reference numbers in the PDF above.

However it looks like it just operates a single pole relay - with care you could replace that with a switch temporarily, assuming that you are confident with electrics.

Batteries won’t use an earth - plus it won’t have one. It’ll be redundant from the 230v version.

Ignoring the internal stuff if it’s physically wired back to the boiler it’s a switch - you can replace with pretty much anything.

Thank you both @billybutcher & @chrisell. I understand now how the central heating control box works. It is very old & faulty, so switched off the mains, removed it from the wall to expose the blue & brown wires.

I connected the blue wire to the brown, taped them, stood back and switched the mains on, and voila, the heating is going again.

I’ll go look for an on/off switch today for temporary use. Thanks again.

When my programmer failed last year, I put a plug on to the boiler and pump, and used a 24 hour plug in timer ( as a temporary fix until I could fit a new programmer).

Or a simple thermostat - you can pick up a wired 1 channel 'stat in the UK for less than £20. Not sure about France.

It’s one of those cases where things have not (IMO) got “better” for the application of technology. But they have got more expensive.

When we had the boiler replace a couple of years ago the guy insisted on fitting a new 'stat & controller despite my protestation that the ones in place still met the regs.

So I now have a 'stat and controller which doesn’t let you alter the set temperature unless the heating is actually on, and needs batteries replacing in the hall sender unit periodically. At least I persuaded him not to fit one that had an internet connection.

Oh, and he couldn’t figure out how to wire it to the boiler using the existing in-wall cable, so I have an ugly cord running from the controller to the boiler (at least it’s not too  long and relatively out of sight).

His plumbing was OK, not sure about his electrics.
