Did you misspell “bandwagon jumper”?
Recognising State of Palestine is at this stage only words.
Leaders may well have wanted to wait in order to see just who was to manage political affairs in the State. Not Hamas again, certainly. And the erstwhile oxymoronic Palestinian Authority is all but defunct. A power vacuum is dangerous and there are organised terrorist designated groups that could step in, as happened in Afghanistan, something that no one wants.
We need to know who will hold power in a State of Palestine, to negotiate borders with Israel and organise rebuilding. These are only two of many extremely important and urgent things that Palestinians themselves must lead, not merely follow foreign intervention.
This is likely why global recognition of a State of Palestine has been on hold.
It’s been on hold in Israel since Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated in November 1995. Israel has had thirty years to negotiate who would run the Palestine state but they didn’t.
They need a deadline.
