Hats off to Amazon!

Just me, but 2 reasons off the top of my head and why I am no longer a customer: 1) Jeff Bezos, and 2) abysmal working conditions. The lack of convenience is annoying, but I made my decision and will stick with it.

Just to say the US working conditions would be different to europe and uk

Probably made in the same factory by the same workers but in excess of the contract for the genuine article then sold on the side.

I do realize that. So I am trying to reconcile that in my “entrenched” head. Thank you for reminding me. I needed that.

Welcome to a bit more freedom and mindfulness, enjoy

I have ordered from Temu. Awful. Never again. Took ages to get here and cheap and nasty.

This might not help then.

We have a saying in the USA: white trash. Money, or lack of, is not a factor.

I ordered 2 shirts via Temu. Yes they did arrive late but, because of this, I got a fiver rebate. They were exactly what I wanted so I ordered 4 more. A similar shirt on Amazon was four times the price.

It is a bit of a lottery.

The Venetians are suffering from a surfeit of Bezos at the moment.
His outrageous spending on his wedding and his sucking up to Trump give a fairly good measure of the man.
The problem is that Amazon is embedded in our lives, rather like the Chinese.

All helped by the panic spread around covid and only some shops allowed to open and only certain journeys could be made, business handed to Bezos on a plate

The 2025 June canicule may be past but it was a sweaty warning for July-August ahead.

We may ordered a Dyson bladeless fan from Amazon. We preferred last year’s model in preference while Dyson France is only selling a new fan/air purifier, the latter of which we do not want. The source seller was a UK company. Delivered 24 hours later via DHL no charge.

The big beautiful fan is now blowing blissfully. Our dog Maud stands in front with her ears flying back.

Odd thing us that brand new item arrived with a France plug. I’mbjust wondering if this is actually hiw Dyson France sells off older models discreetly.

Yes Sud-Angleterre is due to heat up again later this week after the current drizzly cloudy interlude, and I think it will be similar further south - e.g. temps in the mid-high 30s predicted for Charente from Vendredi onwards

What a wonderful sight!

Yes, quite often I order from another Amazon country or two and then find the item is shipped from within France only, often from OrlĂ©ans. (Slightly annoying as I’ve usually paid higher shipping costs due to ordering in another Amazon country so no freeship.) Amazon seems to be doing this more and more.

Being Scottish, I find the French term for a heatwave mildly amusing,
Cannae cool.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn that there was a connection, back over the centuries the 2 countries have had much in common, mostly against the English I think. :grinning:

And responding to “anglais ?” with “non, Ă©cossais” is still well received in many parts.

Yes, but what an admission to have to make

Watch her eyes. Years ago we bought our Cocker Doggles for when the roof was down. We’d read somewhere that wind was bad for her eyes. She used to sit on the centre console with her Doggles on and her ears flapping in the wind. The poor old thing did eventually go blind in old age, but we’d done our best.
