Back in 2012 when we bought our last house it came with a hectare of land which over the following 15 years we turned into what our grandchildren called the park!
It gave us hours of pleasure and lots of enjoyable work.
Now back in the UK our brand new home came with 100m2 of turfed rear garden which at our age is plenty big enough.
We have set about adding some interest to the garden and it is giving us as much pleasure as the park did and plenty enough enjoyable work for 2 old timers.
I think I’d like that, but with plenty of room between us and the neighbours!
Oooh that looks good John.
I reckon our postage stamp is smaller than yours.
At the moment a blank canvas.
Our two hectares is becoming too much and I’m looking forward to doing something with our handkerchief.
Having a home with A rated EPC, 2 railway stations, an excellent doctors surgery, a cottage hospital, all the shops we need within a mile of us and the Lincolnshire countryside on our doorstep with the city of Lincoln 35 minutes away we can cope with neighbours close by.
Just what the doctor, well you, ordered. On the other hand I have been expanding outwards, with an extra 250 square metres of forest. Once I get my Husqvarna back from service all I have to do is crank it up and clear the new growth brambles between the trees. Heaven is right there, in the quiet of the trees and no plants or lawn to tend. ![]()
Similar to what I am doing here in the PO. Low maintenance and no grass to mow, will be astroturf eventually so just washing and brushing when necessary. I don’t miss all the land at all as it had become a daily chore and it actually feels good to have got “smaller” albeit a lot bigger than photos shown but still very small for France properties. As for having neighbours, I feel a lot safer to be honest knowing that there is someone around should I need help and it hopefully keeps the burglars away with all the cameras.
