Saw Cabaret at a theatre in York. My first visit to a theatre ever at the age of 15. I was blown away by the whole thing. Strangest thing was that it was a school visit with about 50 of us, organised by our English lit teacher. How he got permission to take 50 odd 15 year olds to such an adult performance, in the 70s impressed me.

The 70s could be surprisingly uninhibited. At my 11-14 school we were shown a film (about British gas or water, I’m not sure now) complete with naked woman in a shower and the cartoon characters used to narrate the story bouncing off her breasts. It wasn’t sexy like cabaret, but a little nudity wasn’t going to raise objections from bunch of 12 and 13 year olds.
