"Hier kom die Bokke"

I was in Ellis park in 1995, what a privilege. A renewed nation, a new dispensation AND screwing the All Blacks :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

OTOH, I remember winding up disconsolate SA colleagues after the Lions beat the Boks at Newlands (and went on to win the '97 Tour) by saying that I hadn’t noticed because I didn’t know much about rugby as in England it was a minority sport just played by a handful of people.

Yes, rather elitist in England (ignoring Rugby league) not so in Wales, not sure about Scotland and a good collective approach in NI. In Ireland it varies by province, elitist in Leinster, egalitarian in Munster, and a mystery in Connaught :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I was working in Llanelli in 1972 when the Scarlets beat the All Blacks at Strady Park. I didn’t see the game or even follow Rugby Union but the atmosphere in the the town that night was electric. They even drank the pubs dry.

The night after the World Cup win in Jo’burg was too. There was already a national air of optimism and this just topped it off.

curious about the category for this post - “Property & Home”

Moved to sports.

Good idea.

Added the topic using an iPad. This site doesn’t really work using Safari on an iPad and editing and selecting stuff can be a nightmare. I probably went for general and ended up in Property & Home.

So sad that the exciting optimism of those years has since been dissipated by corruption and incompetence.

Too true. A tragedy.

Not where I da come from!

It might be a minority sport in England ..yet there are more registered players there than in ANY OTHER country
