Hello again! As the date gets closer for the move, I was wondering if anyone has had any direct experience with movers from USA to France. We are located in a remote area of Montana, and have very little to bring with us, but it will require a small shipping container, probably a quad-con, or a 1/4 container (couple of pieces of heirloom furniture, mostly kids clothing, books, etc.).
If anyone has recommendations for companies that they trust or have good luck with, I’m all ears. Also any bad experiences are welcome.
Best, and thanks in advance!
T. & E. Leonard, on a cold lonely ranch in Montana.
OMG Another MT will be in France! Welcome! Am in the Haute Vienne area. So, in answer to your question, you will need a Very precise inventory to go into your packing list and documents. (I would recommend taking photos as a backup) You are Not taxed IF you are coming in to Live. That will require the appropriate paperwork on that you can live here (vs visiting) Re your shipping container, customs will handle all of your paperwork (make sure you have a good company!) and make sure your container is LOCKED and SEALED in front of you Before the truck takes it away. Only Customs can break that seal. (Photo the seal also as backup). Your submitted inventory will require values on everything you declare. And, make sure you have NO guns, ammo etc. They cannot be imported in without separate licenses, etc and it’s pretty much a very big Don’t Do It. (felony level) What part of MT are coming from?! Keep in touch!
Zero interaction with French customs. Once it is in the EU no reason for it. They did door to door with everything able to be delivered up to 2nd floor(G,1,2). We packed most of the stuff ourselves but they packed the bigger/high value items like TVs, PCs, Artworks and bikes. We had lists of everything and sent it to them and they transcrided it to their custom forms.
Thank you for this information. I truly appreciate it. I have a couple of additional questions, if you don’t mind: 1. did everything go into a shipping container at your home? 2. Did you ship from a non-coastal area? We are in the middle of Montana, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned living here most of my life, that trying to get anyone to do business in rural Montana is a headache. All workable problems, I’m just curious as to your personal experience. Thanks again for your response! T & E
We didn’t have enough for a full container so they loaded it in a truck from our place. They did have an option for us to pay for one if we didn’t want to do a shared shipment. We were on the East Coast which I am sure made it easier. I do know someone that has used them to ship from Colorado to the EU. Maybe give them a call if you don’t want to get a quote through the website they were very helpful and had quick responses thru out the whole xp.
Hi, re French customs, as long as you have your inventory list in order, it should be fine. Just no guns etc. They would need separate paperwork. Unless the container scan shows a problem you should just get a notice of customs clearance and an aproximate date of delivery. Check on arrival your seal is still intact.. If customs demands to open it, either you or your agent should be present for same.
