Huw Edwards

Makes you wonder who else is out there next!

Forensic search of MP’s tech might be very spicy.

Wasn’t Harriet Harmann connected to the nonce support group PIE at one point?

The aristocracy has been full of deviants since it first became a thing way back when.

Into the sea with all of them!

Agree.

However, as I said, the cut off for indecent images is 18 - which means two 16 year olds can be quite legally canoodling but if one of them takes a photo of the act, they have technically produced “child porn”.

Not necessarily, as a matter of fact!

OK, but if someone else takes the photo…

Yes - a school friend of mine was convicted for child sex offences in his 40s and it turned out he himself had been abused as a child at a cathedral choir school.

That doesn’t excuse his behaviour at all, but it does perhaps shed some light on how the psychological damage is done and predatory behaviour can be repeated down the generations.

It’s all very sad indeed.

BBC were told by the Police not to release any info on the Huw Edwards story,so they are in the clear.

Similar to bullying I believe

I don’t know, but I would imagine that could be the case, yes.

And now he’s being unpersoned by the BBC

“The BBC has started removing Huw Edwards from some of its archive footage after he pleaded guilty to making indecent images of children.

“The former BBC presenter’s image and voice are being wiped from family and entertainment content on iPlayer, which includes taking down a Doctor Whoepisode, according to The Observer and BBC News.

“An episode of Great British Menu he featured in is also no longer available.”

aka Savilised.

He also, as a Welsh speaker, did a very good programme amongst the Welsh descendants in Tierra del Fuego I think it was.

Sad, the re-writing of history, the next thing will be the erasure of the 2nd World War because 'orrible 'itler had a starring role in it.

Did orrible hitler have pictures like Huw?

Rewriting history is all the rage nowadays.

The sentence was six months’ prison, suspended for two years.

About right: Possession of indecent photograph of child/ Indecent photographs of children – Sentencing

Very lenient. Guess Huw has powerful friends with shared interests.

It is interesting that you leap straight to the conspiracy theory as an explanation for what you see as an overly lenient sentence even when the sentencing guidelines are posted, and tuck in a sly “they’re all at it” as you do so.

Judges in the UK are constrained fairly tightly by the sentencing guidelines - too harsh a sentence is easily appealed for one thing.

He will be on the sex offenders register for seven years and must attend at least 25 rehabilitation sessions.

He has also completely ruined his career - it is safe to say he won’t work again. All in all he hasn’t gotten away that lightly.

7 of the images were category A so the starting point is a custodial sentence of one year.

Several of the mitigating factors listed in the guidelines apply - no previous convictions, remorse, positive character. I think he entered a guilty plea and doubtless helped in securing a conviction for the man who supplied the images. All of which plus a psychological evaluation that he would be a suicide risk in prison (appropriately) reduced his sentence to 6 months suspended.

No need to invoke perverted friends in high places. In any case even if he does have such friends I suspect that they are keeping the proverbial barge pole’s distance.

I agree with Sir William that it’s too easy to judge people (and make assumptions) when we don’t know all the circumstances.

Yes the crime was evil but the courts take all factors into account when coming up with a sentence.

We as onlookers may not be not aware of factors in an offender’s past that may have led them to commit such a crime.

For example, someone who I was at school with, was convicted in his forties of sexual offences against young boys - but it emerged at the trial that he himself had suffered sexual abuse as a child.

Thirty odd years ago I had a colleague who was suspended from work for I think eighteen months during the Cleveland Paedophile Witchcraft fiasco. His children were put into care and people said they’d always thought he was a bit seedy (undernourished Glaswegian with bad teeth). But OTOH he’d been very helpful to me, letting me use the darkroom for 35mm and ortho line film developing.

And then the whole case fell apart, but by then he seemed a broken man.

It seems so difficult to ‘get it right’.
