I don't think it's me

Especially as he was holding the answer on a card in his hand!

I quite like Amol Rajan, actually. Not his accent - though it seems less fake than many - but his enthusiasm and (what seems like) genuine interest. I like his gushing less.

Another thing that I’ve noticed with some English radio reporters is the weird stress patterns they use, often laying the stress on less important/significant words and rendering what they say difficult to understand.

He talks far too rapidly for me, and for himself as well sometimes, which causes him to trip over his words. Not good for those with even the slightest hearing problems.
Impressions that were rife at one time of Bruce Forsyth’s dithering speech often comes to mind when I hear him.

I certainly could imagine Dead Ringers doing a good job with him!

Nine-year-old video, an hour-long. Bamber Gascoigne & Jeremy Paxman, students & others…

Complaints about Amol Rajan mumbling and speaking too quickly. This video unfortunately has an artificial voice….

And another complaint, about how he was appointed.

Was that “BBC sparks outrage video” report being read aloud by a Robot???
I was following the subtitles and listening to “her” voice…
“She” was obviously reading the same subtitles… but…
“She” put the emphasis in several wrong places…
and even read-aloud the “hash sign” # for heaven’s sake…
I ran the track back… but no mistake… “hash” rang out loud and clear…
I gave up…

There’s lots of automated videos on there nowadays. People are trying to game YouTube’s monetisation system for a passive income.

There’s someone called Royal Vandepar who’s uploaded over 2 million videos to YouTube using this method. He takes content from Stack Overflow, a popular website where programmers and IT geeks ask questions, and creates videos from it… He must be earning a fortune from it.

It definitely is not - I have the same problem and constantly turn up the volume, not that it helps. The background music is far too loud and the actors and actresses do mumble! Thank goodness for rewind features!

This is because you are old and going slowly deaf. I know because I have the same issue. Watch UK films and dramas, avoid US. Watch anything with subtitles. Get a TV that shows subtitles.

Can you explain why one can have the volume at 4 out of a max 24… and hear everything perfectly… for most dvds and old films on YouTube
then for a different dvd or, indeed, a modern film… one might need to keep raising the volume for some verbals… lowering for others… and swiftly muting the whole thing, due to crashing/deafening mood music blasting away…

Strikes me it’s not the ears which are at fault…

We are watching Death in Paradise dvd’s, one episode a day… after lunch… nodding gently into siesta…
Today… Series 8, Episode 1: Murder on the Honore Express.

Good grief… the opening music blasts out… and I’m scrabbling for the controller…

Yep… we’ve had no trouble whatsoever with Series 1-7… but today it’s been a darn nuisance…
although they’re not mumbling… (at least that’s something)
but the difference between speech-volume and music-volume is very dramatic and I reckon far more dramatic that the “murder” deserves…

So, in some instances… it’s the Production at fault… that’s for sure.

A lot of TV programmes, mainly USA ones, have background music playing during dialogue, louder than the actors’ speech. I’ve tried soundbars, headphones, different audio settings on the TV, but have eventually concluded that it’s just bad sound mixinig by the production teams. I’m also guessing that USA audiences need music to tell them what’s going on - FBI series uses threatening music to warn of upcoming drama just like Jaws did. However my biggest complaint is that BBC documentaries and news programmes often use subtitles while someone is speaking a non-English language. I’m not perpetually in front of the TV, sometimes I’m listening while doing something else, or awake during the night with an oxygen mask on and unable to wear specs with that. They often dub over Macron, whom I could understand, though!

 :rofl:your comments about US programmes have made me chuckle…

Something has def changed within the sound aspect of the production of “Paradise”… although it’s still Red Planet as far as I can see… and that’s British…
ah well… at least OH is comforted that he doesn’t have to splash out on more sound equipment… we’ll just not watch any Series which goes “over the top”… there is a very useful Mute and/or Off

Parkinsons is known for accentuating prebious character traits. Perhaps it was an early sign?

Could be right, on my recent trip back to England I met my stepson Chris who retired early as a nurse because he has Parkinsons. On a reunion with him and his siblings I mentioned how Fisherman’s Friends helped comabat my extreme catarrh problems and I wanted to know where I could get some. His brother who works at the Co-op said they didn’t stock them but eventually they all left. Half an hour later while I was still chatting to my first wife, Pat, Chris returned with 3 large boxes of them, some flavoured. :joy:

Unforgetable! As an old advert used to say about another product… “cleans right round the bend”… wow, nearly blew my head off when I enthusiastically sucked on one of these many years ago …

I recently noticed them on sale at a local supermarket, amongst the other bits offered as one waits at the tills… but managed to restrain myself …

I have some in the cupboard - saw them in Lidl I think. They are absolutely great - I take one look at them and suddenly my catarrh doesn’t seem to be so bad after all

You can get them in France but they are much more expensive. I had a bit of an addiction to them so I gave up eating them.

Yes, I have bought them here, they are usually at the cashout but I forgot to buy some thus having none in UK.
My problem is not addiction it is forgetting to take them, even when in dire need.
