Imminent purchase by a petrolhead

Order placed for the RS3

Probably my last new car, I suspect my last dalliance with infernal combustion as well.

Just have to wait five months for Audi to build it grr.

Billy, I’ve just done a search on Google for the RS3 because I wasn’t sure of this model. I like !

But please tell me you’re not going to have yours in that awful green colour shown in the images :grimacing:

A friend back in Blighty is on her 2nd (or is it 3rd?) RS3 now. Makes a lovely growl and it goes like shit off a shovel… Although when some men see a woman driving a fast car they invariably act like dickheads and have to overtake her at any cost.

Enjoy :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I quite â€‰like the green - looks OK in the flesh - but, no, Python Yellow (again).

Though it does look rather good in “Merlin Purple” - but that is an Audi Exclusive colour (for something like £4k extra).

Think purple cars are best left to ados and bishops…

Don’t suppose they ever thought of calling Python Yellow ‘Shiny Buttercup’ tho’ that might have been big in Japan…

Have just discovered that our current BM is possibly ‘Valencia Orange Metallic’.

Yeah, I don’t think I’d actually buy â€‰a car that colour. But it looks good in the photos.

All purple cars should be required to have 2 stickers applied with the words: Pimpmobile and Huggy Bear’s Wheels.

It’s a colour to make a statement, like dressing all in black.

Green or yellow are good.

Think it depends on the car / shade combination - some of my favourites are very old Rovers and Bentleys in soft sage green, P7s and old Brit sports cars in BRG; Remember liking the 1990’s Lotus Elan relaunch colours, which had new very bright and intense pigments, also most Italian sports cars in Fly Yellow and Countachs (but not Porsches) in acid green .

My comparison was with purple cars.

Nice!

I picked up a BMW M340i a month ago, bit more suited as a daily drive I felt.

And it carries a lot of furniture from Ouistreham to our house near Nimes

The S3 (no slouch but the RS3 is in a different league) is a great daily drive - the dealer finally managed to offer me a test drive in a pre-facelift S3 (though in carbon-black, not vorsprung trim so missing quite a few elements) which has left me satisfied that the RS3 will also be a decent day to day drive.

S3 is a bargain, close to RS3 performance considering it’s price, I needed more room for carting things across France, aswell as my bike inside the vehicle…Factor Ostro Vam…which cost me as much as some cars…so M340i touring is the current solution.

A beast of a car - have fun when it finally arrives.

Congratulations Billy. Enjoy.

*A hot shovel surely :slightly_smiling_face:

My wife always laughs when I say that, I suppose one day it’ll be true.

Nice wheels Monsieur!

While I am not all that fussed by vehicular performance, and my car buying budget is a mere fraction of yours, I can appreciate a posh motor.

I think if I had unlimited funds I might be tempted by an Aston Martin of some sort. But back in the real world my next car is likely to be an electric Renault 5.

A yellow one.

No, I’ve already got the yellow one

Well I don’t like the shade of green that Renault chose (and judging by the fact that most of the second-hand R5 electrics available in the UK - probably ex-demonstrators - are green, nor do most people).

Otherwise it’s white or black which are both a bit boring. Wonder why they don’t offer it in red?

Even the Alpine A290 version only comes in white, black, grey or blue.

I think in my case I am very unlikely to want to waste the vast quantity of money that buying a new car involves for a third time.

It’s last hurrah in more than one way - to start with I retire in four years so although I am expecting to be “comfortable” I won’t have the income for it but I do now so what the heck. Also I think that by 2030 we will be seeing the first signs of the demise of petrol so buying another petrol car will make less and less sense.

Finally (or maybe firstly) Audi will be retiring the 5-cylinder next year because they can’t (or don’t want to) make it Euro7 emissions compliant - so if I want one it has to be now, more or less.

Edit: I should say that we are already seeing the first signs of the demise of petrol in that the number of EV’s are steadily rising but it is likely to be 50% of new vehicle registrations by 2030 - though that could be slowed as the EV “honeymoon” wears off, VED rates start to rise and the cost of charging increases.

My “new” car purchase disappointingly is having to be returned due to the “upgrade to 4.5 Litres” stated proving to be false, and 3 litres too pedestrian.

Billy, if you’re paying what you’re paying for the car, then surely another £4k is nothing to get the Merlin Purple one which, I must say, is a fantastic colour. I had a yellow car once but it was only a Ford Escort!
