Importing cars from outside the EU (eg Japan)

Does anyone have any experience of importing a car from outside the EU ? What paperwork would be needed ?

Do not bother!

Some DREALS insist that the glass & seatbelts must be changed to the European standard ones along with other significant alterations, added to the unhelpfulness of some manufacturers make the whole exercise virtually impossible - but it can be done!

Yes I do have some experience. In short I would recommend importing a car in to the UK, registering it there and when you have the latest type V5C, bring it over to France. It is far, far easier. I have imported a couple of Mitsu Eclipses and several S4 Alfa Spiders, both autos with PAS. They were snapped up by Russians on the Côte d'Azur!!!
