Clearly you either do not understand the ethos & editorial direction of Haaretz which you clearly support . You have selected the only far left newspaper in Israel which is generally very hostile to the state. In simple language is very similar to far left l’Humanité whoes chief proponent here is J. L Melenchon as you know well and l’ Unita in Italy . Its like referring to the UK’s Daily Worker (latterly called Morning Star) as representing middle of the road opinion at home. Haaretz thrives by sending its journalists to be “the face of Israel” on Al Jazeera. Surely you don"t get your Middle East news from this sole source or maybe Owen Jones on You Tube ? If you think it represents anything other than a small minority in Israel so be it.
Your representation of civilian deaths would indicate the allies did not cause maybe more than 20 as much in Iraq, that the Syrian civil war was a minor skirmish not involving an alleged maybe 500,000 deaths of Arabs and I need not go on about Yemen and present day Sudan or the DRC. Again I find your fixation, obsession and language disturbing and not in line with this forum. Your continued selectivity deliberately ignores who began this present war in Gaza and Lebanon. However I note your regular band of supporters here will endorse your basically antisemitic long held views. PS… Waiting for you to raise the King David Hotel bombing any moment.
Still whataboutery. None of my Jewish friends has anything remotely nice to say about Netanyahu and his crew.
Actually, free speech is totally in line with this site. Just saying…
I am catching up on the news, and looking at some of the 1500 Israeli tanks lining up at the Lebanese border against a haphazard fleet of Toyota Hilux pick-ups with an AK47 affixed with a scaffold pole, and with twenty of their leaders plucked out from under them, I marvel at the stupidity of Hezbollah and Hamas before them! Call me a scaredy-pants, but with this and the might of a 500 strong airforce against my Netjet account, I would be running a mile
Iran must be laughing at this. They are no way near capable of tackling Israel, so give a few rabble rousers some money to be a nuisance. They are all of sub human intelligence methinks
Rather a simplistic and borderline racist analysis of the situation, I think.
Mate a massive word salad doesn’t make it right. Especially if it begins with “clearly you”.
Just seen the missiles from Iran targetting Tel Aviv on TF1. Most getting destroyed before they do damage but some getting through. The whole thing is escalating fast now and particularly worrying for the rest of the world.
I marvel at their courage. One bunch of terrorists with Toyotas and small arms against another bunch terrorists with US supplied tanks and F15s to bomb women and children with.
The Iranian regime is foul, pretty well hated across the region. However, the Israelis are doing more to improve it’s standing in Saudi, Egypt, Turkey, the UAE etc, than one would ever have thought possible.
One of my colleagues is Lebanese. Neither he nor his family are at all political. However, a week ago his family home was almost completely destroyed, a missile went through the first floor horizontally, his mother and great aunt were lucky, they hid in the cellar. The IDF are actually doing a very good job of driving ordinary politically disengaged Lebanese people into the arms of extremists.
Indeed, the bravery of the two men armed with an automatic weapon and a knife taking on unarmed passengers in a train carriage yesterday took real guts.
I don’t support anything I do not understand Gordon, and I think the above comment is patronising and frankly, stupid. Plus you’ve left dangling “either” Either what for goodness sakes?
This is what Wikipedia says about Haaretz… If you feel it’s incorrect you can edit it online and see what the Wiki contributors think
It was founded in 1918, making it the longest running newspaper currently in print in Israel. It is published in both Hebrew and Englishin the Berliner format. The English edition is published and sold together with The New York Times International Edition. Its Hebrew and English editions are available on the internet. In North America, it is published as a weekly newspaper, combining articles from the Friday edition with a roundup from the rest of the week. Haaretz is Israel’s newspaper of record.[4][5] It is known for its left-wing and liberal stances on domestic and foreign issues.[6]
As of 2022, Haaretz has the third-largest circulation in Israel.[7] It is widely read by international observers, especially in its English edition, and discussed in the international press.[8] According to the Center for Research Libraries, among Israel’s daily newspapers, “Haaretz is considered the most influential and respected for both its news coverage and its commentary.”[9]
Do you know what a newspaper of record is Gordon?
So frankly, and here I I beg the moderators indulgence, you can stick your Daily Worker analogy up your bottom.
Now Gordon, the reason for that is that Israel is a rogue state run genocidal criminals. You might not like, I certainly don’t like that, but it’s true and Haaretz, hoping for a better tomorrow, is not afraid to report it. It is a tribute to the moderate and liberal citizens of Israel that scum like Netanyahu, Smotrich and Ben-Give haven’t been able to shut it done, as that have Al Jazeera, which you also mention, in their Goebbelsisque (to coin a phrase) attempt to control the media.
This really is pathetic (if you done’t mind me saying so). The present war started in 1947, there was an opportunity to move forward in 1993, but the religious rightwing scuppered that.
Since you raised the King David Hotel bombing, I’ll just respond by saying that it was a terrorist attack against the Headquarters of the British Armed Forces, arguably a legitimate target in the minds of the terrorists. Israel has come a long way since that but the its Prime Minister and many of his despicable cabinet now think women and (15,000) children are legitimate targets.
Not progress really, is it?
Two men. Yes, that defines the Palestinian struggle.
Like Letby defines nurses.
Like Truss defines prime ministers
Like West defines builders.
Its lazy and weak line of reasoning.
OK! Then ‘courage’ must equal suicide.
Have you seen the size of those tanks? If one rolled up in front of my house, my first reaction would be to take out a tray of tea and biscuits and not throw a few ineffective firecrackers at them!
I am already branded racist for calling them stupid - heaven knows what I am if I upgrade my thought to idiocy
What are you taking about Tim? That’s nothing to do with Adam’s or my comment?
Indeed. Meanwhile…

You marvel at the courage of Hamas and Hezbollah fighters, does that mean however they take the fight to Israel including murdering innocent people on a train?
That’s just silly Tim, stop digging. I was commenting on human beings courageously facing overwhelming force, like Tiananmen Square. Whatever the right or wrong of the conflict, that is something no IDF soldier has had to do.
Tim, a question for you. Armed men attacking civilians is a crime. People resisting those attacks are brave.
Do you agree with those two statements?
There are no sides to take here, I’m appalled at the West’s blanket support of Israel which has given Netanyahu the green light to do whatever he wants but at the same time I cannot think of Hamas and Hezbollah fighters as anything other than terrorists that need dealing with.
That also describes the Israeli Government and the IDF. Bloody cowards killing women and children wantonly. They don’t care who they slaughter as long as their political aims are met. Unfortunately Biden hadn’t the moral courage to reign them when there was some hope of doing so. Now in the run to the election the Netanyahu has carte blanche.
