While I abhor the possibility of foreign powers interfering in EU politics, I have an inconsistent, grudging approval of interfering in Iraq and frightening the bejesus out of the mad mullahs.
No doubt there will be unintended consequences, probably to the benefit of the war mongering genocide crew in Israel. But at least if it tempers a clamp down in Iraq it’ll have saved lives.
My old professor of Persian used to say the USA had never ever understood the Persian way of seeing or doing things because of ignorance of Persian history and culture, and had no idea how to deal with Iranians.
That’s so true for many countries. Even in France it applies - as many people who come to live here don’t understand the culture of the French like so many other nationalities don’t understand the humour of the British.

My own opinion (for what it’s worth) is that the Neanderthals might have developed blue eyes and blonde hair in a genetic response to the local climate.
It’s always interesting to consider the relationship between spatial and cultural progress, not least in the context of ‘out of Africa’ theory eg. those who came out of Africa became capable of developing ‘more sophisticated’ civilisations.
