Jesus Christ

I have a simple definition 'god is everything'

Hope you didn't mind me asking if you were Jesus Christ the Lord of Nazareth We got it wrong last time..

Whistle down the wind, left a lasting affect..

I have no problem with a simple belief in a divine original benign creator or creators, although I cannot subscribe personally. I am however generally horrified by religion and the atrocities it always has perpetrated, and continues to perpetrate now.

If you absolutely must have a spiritual need, then at least make it a nice one. Shinto, Buddhism, Druidism, or fairies will fill your spiritual gap for instance. And I am indebted to you for clearing up the bunny rabbit/easter egg conundrum for me.

Absolutely right on Hegel and perhaps, as many will argue with you, on some of the principles behind national-socialism, very few of which were actually put into practice like Marxism. However, I extracted Marx's 'altruism' within his historicism from the original comparison to any part of Roman history. Philosophically, by Kant the notion of god was largely redundant however there are belief groups with many gods in the world still which like fairies and witches, amongst many things believed in, keeps their numbers buoyant - their benevolence, charity and so on leave very much more to be desired... After all, even bunny rabbits bring easter eggs!

I would further posit that Marxism is a bastardisation of Hegelism, the other side of which coin lies Nazism, and its famous Catholic son.

If the idea was to demonstrate how awful non-religious people are, the Marxist path is not a particularly good one to wander down. In any case philosophically God has long ceased to exist, but then the existence of God is dependent on belief, not thought.

Well, the onus would be on the person asking that question to define quite precisely what they mean by 'God', as it seems to mean many things to many people, and I wouldn't want us to be talking about two different things. As for the 'second coming' comment, it reminds me rather painfully that my girlfriend has been reminding me for six years of our first night together when I... oh never mind. Back to work I guess. Nice chatting. ;~Sab

I have most certainly a large part of Dr Marx's works here and whilst he and Friedrich Engels called for overthrow of the unjust ruling classes, the horrendous outcome in what came to be so-called 'communist' countries (which not one was or is) one of the things he was looking for was peaceful co-existence. Before history is called on as a reference it is most helpful to think very hard, since the savagery of heresy condemnations and in time the division into various sects of Christianity such as coptics, eastern and oriental orthodox, the assyrian church, western and eastern rites 'catholicism', anabaptism, restorationism, protestantism, anglicanism and others I can't think of right now and persecutions do not bear out a message of 'peace'. Too many wars have been fought in the name of too many churches/religions to truly bear out a firm conviction to a principle of peace that was ever maintained. Jeanne d'Arc was burned at the stake here in France with Rome supporting her being put down as a heretic and witch for daring to attempt to speak directly with Christ. She is one of thousands or martyrs in all religions. To that end most of them are as bloody as any political ideology and I share my doubts amongst them quite equally. As for whether Romans were civilised or not, that is an entirely subjective matter over which those with the appropriate knowledge of history should be left to pronounce.

No more than the civilised Romans who put Christians to the lions, or Marx or Lenin and their followers who are responsible for the vast majority of barbarism and suppression we have seen for along time.

You don't believe in God then Sab? or is that sign off a 'Piff' or are you 'the second coming?'

Do people still do religion? I thought we'd grown out of it on this side of the philosophere. Oh well. And who cares what you wear or look like as long as you don't hurt others. That's timeless. Well, it goes back to the beginning of civilised, thinking, having to live together time, and makes today's organised religions look ridiculous and barbaric. Which of course they are. Isn't that obvious nowadays? Jeez. ;~S

certainly agree with your opening lines Barbara, Got to the bottom, and I agree there too!

agreed on chocolate barbara, I am not allowed because of its downside qualities

they have since vanished, perhaps took a hint, who knows?

Religion as I mentioned before is...or I feel should be about loving others and

extending your hand to help those in need of your time, knowledge and affection.

Was that not what Jesus did.

Not totally sure how the piles of choc eggs, rabbits and chickens came on the

scene.Great commercial digression!
The quaility of chocolate is distinctly bad AND far too much added sugar.

I agree with Joe.... You mention NETS but no qualifying text, nor links, It does make the thread difficult to follow. Be a little Christian for God's sake!

Hi Brian I agree with your sentiments above but who is/are 'NETS Christian Training Programme' and where did they appear in the blog? I though I had heard of the popular ones.
