Ah but if “the party” selects a certain type of leader, what does that say about the type of party it is?
That’s a difficult one to answer @SuePJ because often, it’s not until they are in post that the awfulness and incompetence comes to light… I think it’s called the peter principle…
I voted for the Labour candidate because he was a very good MP, who took time and trouble to sort out a major pensions difficulty we had that no-one else could be bothered with.
It wasn’t too hard as the Party was pretty centrist at the time, but it does present a difficulty when taking into account the awful system in the UK.
Many years ago, after my then wife joined us both to the Conservative party (without my knowledge ) the candidate was absolutely useless when asked to intervene in a serious situation.
