We employ a cook for our gites business (using a combination of TESSE and cash in hand) who tells us that on 1 May, la Fete de Travail, employees - if they work on that day - are obliged to be paid double. I can't find anything about this on the web. Does anyone know if this is the case?
Thanks,
sharon
Thanks everyone for your replies. Much appreciated.
And what's all this nonsense about cash in hand?
Yup, straight up double, when I worked in a wine cellar, it was the only day I was paid double - I worked most bank holidays and it is the only one obliging extra pay - I got double commission too - a great day to work:-)
And they would expect double or at least time and a half for working a bank holiday in the UK too!
