I got my complicated/darkening (plus all singing all dancing) lenses replaced this year at my local chappie … using Mutuelle… all paid.
why not get some quotes from your local opticien… do you have a mutuelle??
Get an eye test (usually free) at the opticians. Go to your MT with the results and ask him to give you a prescription, go back to opticians with said prescription +CV +mutuelle, choose what you want and ask for a quote. I just got 2 pairs of varifocals (one is sunglasses) for about €100.
Really? I went in today and was told I need an opticians ordonance with a base line eye test done by them, then for 3 years they can do the tests.
Quite possibly things are still varying from area to area.
Years ago, my local optician did basic eyetests and got the lenses madeup accordingly…
After some years, he advised me to get a checkup with the Specialist and I’ve gone that route since then.
So, every couple of years, I visit an OptoSpecialist who checks the health of my eyes, as well as the prescription of my lenses…
However, I believe some Opticiens are now authorised to issue prescriptions, due to the lack of Specialists which caused the ridiculously long wait which some folk have for an appointment…
I now it was being discussed at goverment level… but lost track of what was the outcome.
I went to Ecouté et Voir last year after two cataracts were removed within three months of each other (they went that fast) and took advantage of the government selection of glasses. Got a nice pair of modern metal progressive ones with a greenish tint for €140 and a pair of sunglasses also progressive lenses for €49. My last pair two years earlier cost over €700, so never again!

what is a base line?
Sorry I’ve just edited my post as it wasn’t very clear! I mean the ophthalmologist does the first test and then the optician can monitor you for 3 years.
