We’re reaching the point ie 63 days into our time in France where our mno (O2) will catch up with us not using the service in the UK.
Our needs are to be able to receive calls from the UK that are included in family/friends call allowance though we can probably use Whatsapp etc. To be able to call the UK and to be able to receive sms is more important. Could anyone advise any service that works well and is inexpensive please. We do have dual sim iphone - esim plus normal sim. We have an Orange sim here for our calls in France.
Any Swytch users? This looks quite useful with a £6 month rental and 6p/min calls but calls are voip so need data sim from someone else. Free incoming calls. I’d rather have what I have now but with no 60 day roaming limit. I doubt it exists.
I use a UK Lebara sim, they allow 30gb of data per month roaming provided of course you have that much allowance. I have been in France continuously for almost 3 months and the no commitment deal just renews each month. 100 international call minutes are also included.
Looks useful
Looking at website - How long can I roam in the EU?
Lebara’s Roam Like Home scheme for the EU is designed for short trips. To safeguard against abuse, if your EU roaming usage is greater than usage in the UK over any continuous 120 day period, you will be subject to a surcharge of 0.20p/MB (equivalent to £2/GB) for data, 0.04p/sec (equivalent to 2.4p/min) for outgoing calls, 0.01p/sec (equivalent to 0.6p/min) for incoming calls and 0.8p for sending an SMS.
So they too have a limit but it’s 120 days but charges not too bad once exceeded. May be a good stop gap at least. Need to see if they have an esim.
Edit - No esim till q3 of this year so not ideal.
I’m with Lebara, but recently had the “fair usage” email after being in France for 3 months.
I’m keeping it on because I want to keep my UK number, but I also have a French number (and data).
I must have been pretty close to that but just under the fair usage days abroad. Good to know.
