Le Figaro - is it any good?

Le Figaro is running a sub offer: 2€/m for 200 months.

It’s centre-right, but scores highly for factual reporting: https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/le-figaro-bias/

Has anyone any thoughts? I’m quite tempted.

It’s 200 weeks not months, but still a cracking deal.

I read it when visiting the MIL. It’s a bit dry for my liking, but at 2€ per month, you can’t go wrong.

I’ve read it from time to time and thought it was OK and that’s certainly a good offer. At my level of French I find their writing easier to read than Le Monde.

Not any more it isn’t and online it is far worse. If you bear that in mind go for it, just be aware it belongs to Dassault. (Used to be Robert Hersant, he brought in the mags etc). There was a thing about it on Inter today, you can prob find it if you look online.

Thank you Vero, I hadn’t realised that.

I guess it depends where one stands on the spectrum. One person’s far right is someone else’s pinko lefty.

Thanks all. Yes, I’d calculated a little shy of 4 years, but put “months” for some reason.

As far as the politics is concerned, forewarned is forearmed!

I used to read the paper version every time I stayed at my ex-in-laws, as they were right-wing conservative Christians and lapped up the articles. My ex had nothing but scathing criticism for that “rag”, as she used to call it. Mind you, at the time, she was a Monde/Libération reader, so not really surprising.

One of my ex’s childhood friends is a journalist with the Figaro, writing in the Eco section. Suffice to say, they didn’t always see eye to eye.

My understanding was that it had moved into the realm of Daily Torygraph right-wing fiction, replete now with ads in the digital version, but I haven’t read it in a while.

That’s about right, and the online tribunes or opinion pieces, Figaro Vox if you want to have a look, are pretty terrible. Back in the day when I was an étudiante I had some friends who were Figaro journos and it wasn’t as dire.

I mentioned this offer to Oh, and his reply was unprintable.
