Life Certificate hassle

My mayor never witnesses my signature either. I go in with the form , the secretary checks everything, fills in all the details except the Mayor’s signature, takes a copy of my passport and says ‘ Come back to borrow, I’ll get him to sign it tonight ‘ Never had a problem .

Pensioners living in the UK ( to my knowledge ) don’t have to fill in a Cert of Life form as if a person dies in the UK it’s registered and can be checked. They can’t do that for overseas pensioners.

OH’s UK firm uses an outfit called Target who are very large and act for a lot of companies, according to their website. They do a monthly run of deaths in the UK and abroad as part of the service.

And OH’s company still ask for an annual proof of life certificate regardless of where people live.

If we can download Concorde’s French version of the form I am wondering whether they’d accept it if you proactively had it signed and sent it in each year or two anyway?

I’ve just received my French request for proof of life fromCARSAT, hats off to them as all the questions are not only in French but 5 other languages, English being one.

Sounds like the DWP aren’t as helpful.

I’ve never had an acknowledgement of a life certificate, whether DWP or my other pension that asks for one. I love my little Scottish Widows pension -they’ve never asked me for one!

Most Mairies are au fait with this nuisance, they are not so xenophobic as in UK.

The one you slipped the secretary to sign the form :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Forgive me, perhaps I am misunderstanding, but the person witnessing your signature does NOT have to put HER passport info anywhere on the form.

Absolutely right @Harriet_Wallace - they only have to fill in the second section of the form givig name, role etc and the all-important Mairie stamp!

Our Mairie knows us well. I’m positive they would sign and stamp a paper stating I am a talking squirrel if I asked them to.

I said I would let you know when I heard and I’ve had an email from Target who carry out proof of life checks for one of my company pensions. If I’ve understood the letter, they’re offering three options:

  1. Use their app that uses biometrics and my individual ID number to identify me and upload electronic documents/photos onto that. They want the form and photo ID.
  2. Use email and send the signed form and photo ID.
  3. The old-fashioned way, have the form witnessed, but not by a relative. They will accept a bank officer, doctor, lawyer or minister of religion, or any person of an official capacity who can stamp the certificate. It looks as it they’ll accept that via email as well, but I don’t think their letter explains it all that clearly.
