Life's too short to peel a shallot

or so I thought. Having just struggled to open a bottle of red for my boeuf bourgignon, succeeded on second bottle after cork snapped on first one. My big pregnant belly gets in the way of holding the bottle in a firm grip & giving a mighty pull.

Anyway I then had a small mountain of shallots to peel. I was not looking forward to the task until I discovered a new quick method of peeling them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes and then they just peel instantly. Simples!

Have you got any time saving methods of preparing veg to share?
