Way back in history, after being deserted by my (late/ex)husband, I needed help with paying the mortgage etc. and a friend of mine had a friend who had just left his wife and was looking for a bedsit type place.
Long story short - Mike came to live with me as a paying lodger, and we became really good friends. We are still in touch and also I’m in contact with his 3 daughters too. He was a perfect lodger who turned into a perfect long-term friend. And happy ending was that Mike met Lyn and they married recently. Photo of them at the wedding with Mike’s daughters

Well - that’s a must about the cats 
and after all, it is your house and they come there and live with you and abide by your ‘rules’ (tough word but I think you know what I mean)

Well there’s just one cat who is fine with dogs and likes people and is no trouble, but obviously not everyone likes them.
