Buy him a course in woodturning (that's John Mitchell in the photo who teaches woodturning in the Dordogne), fly fishing, indian cooking, watercolour painting, wine appreciation, antiques or archery, creative writing or a lovely relaxing yoga retreat maybe.
Personally, I'd choose a cookery course....then I get to benefit from his improved cookery skills...which are already excellent, I hasten to add!
