I’m asking our photo club members to bring a small present to our Christmas party and the presents will go into a lucky dip. How should I say that in French? Thanks

Thanks for your suggestions all of you.

Translating backwards and forwards through various dictionaries and looking at images, I’m thinking @RicePudding 's might be the safest option.
I didn’t want anyone to think it would be as complicated as a “secret friend” thing. Hopefully everyone will participate - I might have to have a few extra gifts in the draw, just in case.

Cornet surprise is what it was called chez moi in the south east. I’ve also heard pochette surprise. Tirage au sort is a lucky draw which to my mind isn’t quite the same.
You could call it ‘bonne pioche’ :blush:

I heard this called something else tonight but i forget already. I’ll post it tomorrow when we re-convene. Cadeau surprise peut etre? Whatever, we agreed it was Secret Santa.

Same idea as secret Santa. We did it at my lycée last year, I think it was called hotte de pere Noel? @vero ? Some had male or female marked I think.

We do it, you sign up if you want to participate, and then you are given (top secret) the name of someone on the list and your present is for that person which means usually that people are happy because they have something that suits them.
There’s a cap of 5 euros, which means you have to be imaginative. The year before last I got a very beautiful and elegant boho colleague who wears mismatched dangly earrings so I made her one with Chinese cloisonné enamel beads and a silk tassel and I’m super happy because she wears it non stop.

And that’s not what I’m asking our club to do - we used to do this in the office where I worked in Brazil (amigo secreto) - great if you know someone well, but painful if you’ve been given the name of someone you barely know.

Ours sadly wasn’t with names so you had to get something generic. I got rid of (sorry re-gifted :rofl::mrs_claus::mrs_claus:) a fake oil / scent burner kit I’d been given the year before (elsewhere!) and got a candle!
