"Mademoiselle" missing from official forms

Breton town Cesson-Sévigné bans use of the title "mademoiselle" on official documents, citing it as a descriminatory reference.

The term "mademoiselle" is akin to 'miss' in the English language, feminist groups Osez le Féminisme and Les Chiennes de Garde have campaigned for it's eradication across the nation since September of 2011

Local mayor Michel Bihan decided to abandon the title on all administrative internal and external documents taking effect on January 1st of this year.

A spokesperson for the small town situated near Rennes explained "This is to eliminate any references that may be discriminatory or intrusive. The existence of two different terms to refer to married women and those which are not, constitute discrimination against women because such differentiation does not exist for men."
