Hi Folks,


I am looking for a Marechal Ferrant in the Sarlat/ Montignac area , one who will come to me to do a barefoot trim of my 5 horses, they are not shoed, I have done them myself but being new to horse ownership I would like to have them done professionally to make sure my handiwork is tickety boo. I would also like to know the cost I should expect to pay, not too concerned about cost but I Like to know I'm not having my pants pulled down if you get my drift. thanks in advance.

Good man. We've got to look after our "dumb" friends. I have just removed a full set of shoes from my wife's young chap as they are going bit thin, she's off to England for a week & the MF can't get here for a while. I didn't want one coming loose in the field & ripping his hoof. One can see how MF's earn their crust & do their backs in. It's hard work!

I pay my farrier 25€ for a trim.

Hi Vic, Dont worry, I have been shown several times by my natural horsemanship instructor and done trimming under instruction several times, the only time done with these horse on my own was a light rasping, its why I want a professional in to do a proper trim. no offense taken

i"m in the 16 region , i pay 25 each for each horse , i think it's very reasonable price if it's well done , sorry for my english i'm a belgian french speaking new in France )

Grumpy gits we may be but the horses can't speak so we have to. I've seen one of our horses limping with a damaged foot & it's not a pleasant site. Unlike us they can't just go to bed until it's better. Still no offense meant Russell but get 'em checked out.

Russell. I'm no horse owner but my wife is. Don't take this the wrong way but are you aware how much damage someone "new to horse ownership" can do to a horses foot. It may well be that your are an "expert" who is simply new to ownership but having spent a lot of time 'on the road' with our blacksmith to learn a bit in case of emergency with our horses I have been horrified at some DIY jobs.
