Mercedes Tune Up

Anyone know anything about making my 1978 Mercedes 280ce idle and go a bit better. It's got a splashy and irregular misfire and I've done the plugs, rotor arm, distributor cap, etc to no avail. Noww I am looking suspiciously at the K-Jetronic injection system but, to be frank, I know SFA about it.

Compressions are all ok, between 120 and 140 psi.

~i live in Canet, in the Aude. Anyone with any ideas, please let me know....thanks in advance

Chris

Chris, when it is idling roughly, spray as per my last post . If the idle settles to normal or near normal for a short time, the carb cleaner is making a temp seal on a leak. Hth’s good luck

What do you expect to see when you spray this carb cleaner around? I've never done this before

Definitely sounds like weak fuel mixture? possibly air leaks in injection system?

Hi, I have k-jet on my 89’ Volvo. It is renowned for its reliability in ‘Volvo world’ . I would look at injector seals first. When it’s idling roughly spray some carb cleaner onto each injector. If the idle settles for a short time, then that is the carb cleaner sealing the leak temporarily.

If you find one or more leaking, then replace the lot . Did mine about 4 years back.

If they’re okay, spray around the air intake manifold looking for the same result . If that’s leaking replace it.

Idle control valve? Remove it and clean it out, use carb cleaner again. It should have a valve thing inside it which should freely move. It may be clogged up. Once off tip it side to side and see how freely the thing moves.

Check all pipelines for leaks too- vacuum hoses etc.

I know SFA about Mercs, so hope this helps!
