We get South America’s hormone-fed beef and chicken; they get our pop, spirits, wine and chocolate.
For once I’m with the farmers on this one.
I really can’t see how it would acceptable to allow foodstuffs in that don’t comply with EU regulations, but some EU members (not France) are up for it.
I do understand the concerns about access to minerals, but it would be wrong to sell out through desperation. Surely it’s better to insist that the Mercosur countries improve their standards, rather than getting involved in a race to the bottom.
We absolutely support the farmers on this. Apart from the damage to the farming industry we don’t want sub standard hormone fed products.
No way. Will not be buying any meat unless it has the history on the packet of where it has come from. Threw away a hard plastic chopping board yesterday when I read how much of it comes off with each knife attack and can get into our brains, put me right off so got the glass one out instead.
If you can find a wooden one, it won’t dull your knives. And (I believe) wood has a natural antibacterial effect.
Yes, I have a couple of big wooden ones and there were lots in LeClerc today but just wanted a medium sized glass one. Thanks for the info though.
I have 3, all gifted by a friend who, the exact opposite to me, can never bear to be in possession of something she has no need of at that particular moment.
Can’t claim lack of brain damage as a result though.
And (I believe) bamboo is particularly good.
I bought a mahoosive bamboo one recently. The only problem is where to keep it.
One of my guilty pleasures in corn beef. The dangers of opening the tin are surely more worrying than how the beef content was fed.
Lol - me too, especially with proper English mustard.
The fact that it’s not readily available in France makes the decision easier.
Most South American beef (maybe North American too) is raised on feedlots, fed GM food and never sees outdoors.
Au contraire!
I have found it in most supermarkets.
Price range from 2.60 to 2.90 euros.
While we sympathise with them and do appreciate the high quality of food compared with the UK we’d still like to avoid their blockades. We’re hoping to travel on the N141 from Angoulême to Limoges next weekend. The blockades on this road were quite bad last time. Has anyone any info on blockades on this road?
I always keep a couple of tins in the fridge, found in every surpermarket here. However some of the cheaper brands are not so nice so I have always stuck to Hereford brand, fabriqué in France itself, tins are red, black and orange and come in two sizes.
I noticed a few Mercosur signs today, in the style of leaving a commune, i.e. Red border with MERCOSUR crossed out andstuck over the leaving commune signs
Same here. I watched Corinne Lalo on TVL talking in particular about perturbateurs endocriniens. They’re especially bad for pregnant women and can even affect future generations because they affect the hormones of humans and animals, can cause cancer, infertility and other horrors.
As for the kitchen, I’ve moved to a thick wooden cutting board, wooden spoons and spatulas. Knives don’t get blunted on wood like they do on plastic boards.
Bought a tin this morning in Leclerc.
Here in our part of Correze they have dropped large tyres over the speed cameras totally blinding them and then painted their message on the tyres.
Yes, it was a french report that I read about the plastic boards and the fibres that come off them that can’t really be seen by the naked eye each time you cut something on them. I changed to one of them some time ago because wooden chopping boards were deemed unsafe although I had different ones for different foods and then went for the glass ones all round. Very frightening what with plastic from water bottles in the tap water and so on.
Here, they just set them on fire . Using large tyres as well
