The micro I have now is smaller than its forerunner, too small to to have 2 hands in to make adjustments while seeing at the same time and, when the dish falls off its base, itself caused by restricted space dislodging it, it is a bloody nightmare to relocate.
There is the glass dish which rests on a 3 point bearer which has a post in the middle which is inserted into a hole. The 3 points of the bearer must be inserted into 3 corresponding depressions in the base of the plate. Unconnected to all that is a large ring with 3 little wheels which stop the plate from tilting as it turns.
It isn’t sufficient to place the dish on the bearer, it has to have its depressions lined up with the 3 raised points of the bearer. But it is impossible to see with both hands in the way and can’t be turned to allow the points to drop in place because the bearer turns in its hole at the same time.
I tried soaping the contact points between dish and bearer in order to keep the 2 together, dish uppermost, while dropping the whole into the hole. But even when I managed that without them separating, the bearer then refused to drop in the hole.
Short of actually glueing dish and bearer together or buying a brand new, much bigger micro, has anyone got a trick to share that will give me a glass of coffee in one minute before in rage I throw the whole lot through the window?
The bearer shouldn’t turn easily as it’s connected to the motor that drives it. Normally, the plate can be rotated on the support ring with one hand until it lines up correctly with a satisfying clonk.
Yes I appreciate the illustration but if it is to scale that is exactly my problem. My micro is no way as big as that and it is exactly that that is the cause of the problem. It is already too high and with the nevertheless improving gammy arm I keep catching the plate with whatever I am putting in or taking out.
@b33jay The plate is 24.5 cms and I have just taken it out, made sure the bearer is fully home and the outside ring in the right place and, using both hands I have managed to drop it in.
I think the problem has been with a bad arm which could not reach up and carry, I was lifing stuff in and out with one. Doesn’t explain why turning it round it previously would not drop into place.
I am just having to be more careful and the arm is getting better everyday, but there is absolutely nowhere in the kitchen where I could relocate it without displacing something else to the detriment.
By whom? And yes this could be fine, unless you have shoulder problems. Also v dangerous with children in the houses as risks them pulling out hot stuff on top of the .
Or more practically, maybe one of these - a “kick stool” that you can push about with your feet but which stays still when you put your weight on it?
