Is there anybody out there who knows why all the thumbnails on my Google chrome have disappeared? Or maybe how to restore them.On of the most useful features of Chrome for me.

I suggest you do a Google search for “restore thumbnails on Google chrome”. Lots of sites giving advice.

I did a restore to default in settings to no effect. This morning they had all mysteriously reappeared. Computers eh.
