Yes that is what I meant, we’ve tried to outright cancel mobile phone things before and it has taken months where by porting your number they do it all - very stress free!

specifically Peter E, do a call to 3179 on your mobile. you will get an SMS with a “RIO” code number. Give that to whoever you sign up with (or already signed up with) and the network you’re transferring to will transfer you in about 5 days.
Avoids the pfaff, delay and expense of registered letter with avis de reception, about 10 euros these days I think, if you’re not doing a port “portabilité” and just doing resiliation.
If a new network the 5 or so days will start after you activate your SIM card
