Money Puzzle - Sorted

Got myself into a right tangle this month, down initially to La Poste hesitating about a transfer of 500 odd quid to Amazon fr when I bought my laptop. But also no doubt due to ageing mental powers.

Back in June, having settled after much debate with myself on a Lenovo and faced with not being able to pay for it, I did so with my Lloyd’s Bank credit card.

Now this £ credit card is only used normally for Amazon books to my Kindle, so the monthly total rarely reaches 10 quid at the most. As Lloyds don’t send paper statements any more I have a note to myself on each 12th of the month to pay what I know is the total, from my Yorks current account.

So you can understand my alarm when I got the usual email from Lloyds to say that my statement was ready on line and so post haste I shuffled over there only to find my total was about 493 quid.

Panic stations ensued as I shot back to Lloyds and then noticed the little CR after the total. I’m in credit not debit. :joy:

But joy turns to consternation when I think what can I do with 500 quid when I only spend a tenner there each month? :open_mouth: More than 5 years.

It took a while but I gradually got all the brain cells in line. A fr took 500 quid. Lloyds paid it to them. I then paid Loyds from my Yorks current. A fr paid 500 to Lloyds.

On top of all that the laptop failed and A fr said send it back for refund. I couldn’t work out Mondial Relay so they said don’t bother, keep it but you can have the refund anyway.

So I have a free laptop, which doesn’t work properly, also which I have decided I don’t need now but Eddie is itching to get his hands on it to destroy Avast. And I have 5 years worth of books waiting for me in A uk, by which time I will be nearly 90 and possibly sleeping peacefully with Fran again.

I think I’ll go and have a lie down.

If you really don’t need it, maybe you could donate it to charity, or sell it and give the money for all those who have lost all in the Gironde fires. If the seller says keep it then maybe a message to them to that effect would be good.

Edit: Or donate it to the pompiers who are working day and night :+1:

Hmmm, I think I might have made myself sound rich, when I thought it was coming back to my bank here I already had it spent towards the nearly 900€ bill for the car repair, the fact that it is in a different place than I thought it was, does not change that, but just wondering the best way of repatriating it.

Now I sound both rich and mean. Ah well. :slightly_frowning_face:

Wise, or Revolut - but I think we’ve suggested that before.

Wise wouldn’t have me, I couldn’t pass the passport and face test.
But I think you have the solution, I’m back at TorFX these days for transfers, Synergie having cocked it up twice, so I’ll use them just as normal, but from Lloyds instead of Yorks.

Why not try an Apple?

Good point, and I know Eddie took that step some time ago, but I am strictly non techie and have to revise what I know on a frequent basis so the thought of chucking the whole thing out to learn something new fills me with trepidation.

I am assuming you meant my internet situation and not my fruit policy of course.

:grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

And yes of course, Apple would be a whole new kettle of fish. Yes, better to stick with the fish you know.
