Monthly mobile

Yes, both OH and I have their 19.99 Euro a month deal. It’s really good especially as calls to landlines in other European countries (such as UK and Germany) are included as well, as are calls to the US!! It’s great, we have been calling friends and family a lot  It also includes unlimited calls to French lines, both fixed and mobiles, unlimited SMS within France and unlimited data access.

I switched from expensive and limited Orange to said offer, 16€ per month with my freenaute discount as I already have free ADSL. SO on paper, yes, fantastic, all you can eat voice and data to France and 40 other countries. In practice, some concerns although these are getting better and better each day. They use the Orange network so coverage is great. However, they use the Orange network, so Orange do throttle traffic and new connections very harshly. I'm a network engineer by trade, currently working in the mobile operator space, so I understand what Orange are doing, but the upshot is that in peak times you *may* or *may not* get a call placed. Or receive a call even. Certain services are flaky, most notably voicemail. But it is a 'sans engagement' offer, so if you no likey you can try another operator. I'm pondering the change to B and You as it offers the 40 countries calling. Be aware the SMS to international mobiles is NOT covered; but it is around 12c I think, so not outrageous.

I live in Brittany and work in IDF, so my experiences differ at each location.

Final proviso: YMMV, your mileage may vary, ie your experiences may be better or worse than mine.

Yes, absolutely. I hated the top up system I was on because if you didn't top up regularly, you lost all your credit. In my case about 90 euros once. Now I have a plan with SFR where I only pay about 7,90 a month. People can call me and I can text for next to nothing, but I only have 10 free minutes a month to call, which is fine because I am not a phone person. I have my phone on me for emergencies and so people can always contact me, and for when I travel which is pretty essential these days for connecting up with people when you are late for a rendezvous, etc. So look into it.

I took it out for my son in January (I think) and I have had no complaints from him. We get coverage by Free in the depths of the Charente so it must be ok.

Has anyone tried the 20 euro package from Free? No tie in, looks good

Yep. Go get 'em!

My friend had said, but I go in there all the time, they never offered it before...

Like I said. Ask and don't take non for an answer ;-)

REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT is my provider.

Thanks everybody. All useful info.

My friend has now gone into current provider Bouygtel ( spelling??) shop and they have offered her monthly deal: 11€ =unlimited txts and 60 mins calls. Result!

It's that age old saying...If you don't ask, you don't get ;-)

I wish mine was 10 euros a week and I hardly use it!!!!!

https://www.b-and-you.fr/ is awesome too. Very good coverage and unlimited everything for 20€/month.

Forgot to say - apparently, can't make foreign calls on it. Maybe you have to arrange "roaming"??? But it's not a prob for me.

Hi Helen

I have a French Virgin pay as you go mobile. I pay 20 euros every 90 days - was the best deal at the time as the phone came with a 40 euro credit. The only downside is that if you don't add new credit on before the 90 days are up then you lose any outstanding credit.

Hope you find what you need.

Joan

Yes I did :) Also posted it here https://www.facebook.com/survivefrance

COOL ;-) Thanks.

Up until recently I have refused to use a French mobile as the system here is so expensive/wasteful for someone like me who makes hardly any mobile calls. However, I have just got a French SIM through www.free.fr - it's only two euros a month and that includes 60 mins and 60 txts without a contract.

Roger

I had heard that LeClerc did the best deals. Thanks for your help.

Thanks Hilary. Yep, she just wants calls and txts.

I use LeClerc's pay as you go as I don't use my phone very often n with others was buying credit every month or so, then losing it because it was for a limited period. With leclerc, I can top up online when I need to.

lots of reasonable sim card only deals (if the phone isnt provider locked) with the various operators now since Free got into the market, as far as Ive noticed they're all pretty much the same but she should go in & talk to the folks who do her current payg, or look on the internet sites. All depends what she wants on her offer, not so easy to get a simple calls & texts deal thse days

Thank you Catharine/James. Guess you made this post more visible?

;-)
