We tried one way rentals from Germany just an ordinary Van.
Not to be had.
So I ask what happens if your customer is ill and cannot return the Van/Car?
" we go and get it and charge the customer"
How much? Bordeaux to Frankfurt? “About 3000 €”
If you can find a cheap rental you are better off driving to Belgium from France and returning the rental at the french location.
Shame, obviously a european thing with high charges. SIL paid very little, considering the distance and time taken but HD like to take care of their customers and he has bought several new machines over the past6/7 years from them and had a custom one built.
I used Sixt for a while on one way trips, they didnt have a problem. The only thing they wouldnt let me do was a van from UK across Europe, had to be an EU hire (pre brexit). What company did you use?
Called every one of the german/international hire companies.
Finally had to get a Van from Enterprise Limoges Airport.
Thanks. Too costly.
Thought of that of course David - and I use Cartaplac when I do this - but without a registration document it’s not possible. I might ask the vendor if he can in my absence change the Belgian registration to my name but I’m not sure if that can be done. Otherwise I’m going to abandon it, buy one in the UK and ‘do’ the used for six months when applying for residency process.
Posession in 9 10ths of the law.
If it’s that great a bike do what you have to, to get it here then sort out later. A return trip with local trailer, or returning the trailer, unlikely not to be worth it if it’s that great a bike.
If it’s a dealer selling they have access to networks and should be able to arrange for it to be shipped or riddien to where you need it in France at relatively moderate cost.
