Mould in just purchased house - any legal recourse?

No, this happened five years after purchase. We had not visited for five months during the winter and the mould/mushroom had grown during this period, we found evidence of previous infestation in the cave but after long debates with the Mayor, some legal advice and further investigation realised we were fighting a losing battle and had to pay for it to be dealt with. Money pit of a house but we love it, sadly up for sale soon as we do not get over enough these days.

Aha… five years down the line before it manifested itself… .that explains things a little better.

Glad you love your house…

Don’t panic, give it a good scrub with a solution of 50/50 hot water and bleach. Leave it for a day and you’ll be amazed how it disappears. It is usually caused by a lack of air circulating so a house shut up for years is inclined to reveal such horrors. It looks worse than it is.

Hi Caroline, that’s just what I did at first, panic! But we did what you and some others have suggested here and treated the area accordingly. Ours was a lived in house (not like the other lady’s in this thread) but it just needs some attention to a valley on the roof and of course as always some ventilation both of which we’re working on. Air circulation is so important with the humidity here and things can certainly look pretty daunting if you’re new to it! So thanks for the good simple advice! Cheers.

Discovered a leak from a pipe underneath the hot water tank which is housed in a cupboard in the bathroom. Unless you get down on hands and knees with a torch you’d never notice it. Might well have been happening for a long time but sorted now.
