Moving to LODEVE spring 2013

hello everyone, we are in the process of purchasing a property just outside Lodeve, suprisingly everything is going smoothly the seller, notaire, maire, surveyor and estate agent have all been great!

We are Pete & Sally with two dogs Patch and Freya two 18+ children Rose and Joe....

i posted the following on the main site before I found this sub group...

'hi there we are furnishing a 4 bedroom house near LODEVE and wondered if anyone has advice. we need 2-3 double beds din ing table chairs the whole kit an caboodle! beds ideally would be like Litanoff and Fawcett in the uk and overall we would like it to be cheap (who doesn't) but better quality than IKEA which is our backsyop in MONTPELLIER.'

can anybody help with that?

Hi Pete and Sally,

I'm sorry I haven't been in touch for a while, everything's been a bit crazy the last few weeks! Are you still around or have you had to go back to the UK? How are things going with your house? My husband Matt is here this week if you want to meet up sometime, that would be lovely while he is here, he'll be going back next Sunday (12th). If not I can always meet you another time.

Hope everything's going well for you.

If you want to contact me by email that might be better as I check that everyday, it's corinnekrikorian@hotmail.com and my phone number is 09 67 16 22 30.

Hopefully see you both soon!

Corinne

Hi Pete,

That's great news that everything is progressing well with your house. I'd love to meet up for a coffee with you and Sally. I've just sent you a "friend request" so we can message each other with the details.

Speak soon then, Corinne

Hi Corrine... well the purchase has gone through and I've been spending a lot of time getting the garden under control (its a jungle out there!). I have just retuened to the UK but will be back in Lauroux 4 April... if yoy fancy meeting me and my partner sally that week how about a coffee? You choose the day time and venue as we are flexible. Take care and hope to see you then.

I am based in Perpignan. If you're ever down this way once you are France based do give us a call.

an amazing coincedence where abouts are you based Louise? your suggestions are very helpful..

Hi Pete and Sally

Fly might be worth a look. It falls somewhere between Ikea and Habitat. There is one in Montpellier - http://www.fly.fr/fr/nos-magasins/magasin/montpellier.html

Habitat also still operate in France and there is a shop in Montpellier.

You may also like Maisons du Monde - http://www.maisonsdumonde.fr/

I have written an article on where to buy things in France which you might find useful. You can find it on my site:

My children are called Rosie and Joe - funny coincidence!

Yes that will be lovely!

Keep me posted on how you're doing, we'll meet up in the spring then :-)

Good luck with your move, such an exciting time for you both!

Thanks to both Ron and Corinne... i love the the Brocante shops but i'm a wee bit of a modernist and find that really heavy dark furniture depressing though we have picked up some bits and pices in them. looks like it might be IKEA initially tho I start having anxiety attacks as soon as I see the yellow and blue sign lol! Corrine we are moving to Lauroux so you'll be just around the corner perhaps meet for a coffee and youmcan tell us what you hyave discovered so far...

Hi Pete and Sally!

Welcome to the area! We are new to the area too, only moved here in April this year. We are Corinne, Matt (who works away most of the time) and our two little ones, Hollie and Christian ages 3 and 6. We live in Usclas-du-Bosc.

I am not yet very familiar with the furniture shops in the area (except Ikea), you will probably have to go to Beziers or Montpellier. Just wondered, should you be interested in second hand items, there are some great "Brocante" shops in Pezenas and Beziers...

Hope you find what you're looking for!

Corinne

Hi Pete and Sally,

Welcome to the area, we live in Cap D'Agde just round the road a piece. We had similar troubles when we moved here, the our place was furnished ( ha! ) with heavy duty French dross ( Shabby pas chic ). We quickly discovered that, probably due to lack of competition, the furniture houses were painfully expensive ( but you can always do a deal! ) I would echo Carol's notion, go IKEA!

We live in a holiday area so cheap, effective furniture is the order of the day, certainly for the letters. We are pretty pleased with our pieces. Modern, low cost, colourful, practical.... and what the hey, when it wears out... go get another one!

Ron

Thank you for the tip on the website its just what I was looking for. I understand completely what you mean about the beds and jumping into it too quickly one doesn't usually have to furnish a property from scratch quickly and i'm sure we will buy a few 'mistakes' on the way.

First Welcome Pete and Sally. Am sure you will love the area and the gorgeous weather. As far as bed shops are concerned....the internet is great for finding the nearest shops to you...and usually that means a commercial shopping area...in your nearest town..... the following will help you identify shops http://www.qype.co.uk/fr/categories/57-furniture-shops-in-france. Fly, Conforama and But are all similar to Ikea price wise......must say we ended up buying our beds in a typical bed shop....but ended up with beds that we were not that impressed with...expensive and not particularly attractive, unfortunately we were in a hurry as we had guests coming. Solid wood beds seem expensive here...we found more divan type beds. If I were going to do it again, I would use Ikea...Happy shopping
