NAS and Alexa

For years i’'ve used Plex to stream local music on a NAS server to Alexa. Avoided streaming services in general.

Plex is removing the Alexa skill in 3 weeks.

So is there anything that actually works with Alexa. I remember years ago it was a complete pain and Plex was the only thing that worked. Found a couple of paid options - but Spotify is cheaper.

DNLA players via mobile were all utterly horrible to use. I can just link my MP3 player via Bluetooth but there’s something convenient about just asking Alexa

I have not tried to do any such jiggery-pokery with Plex myself, but maybe Roon would work with Alexa?

Alternatively, via Google I found this:

It’s the 8.50 a month charge. Just so I can tell Alexa to play what I already own. Jellyfin Ember etc only have weird self build Alexa skills which were utterly horrid 5 years ago and I doubt have changed.

I ended up with Plex because it worked (in its own odd fashion)

At 8.50 a month might as well buy a Wiim for the kitchen - or pay Amazon 5 euros a month to just stream anything

My Media for Amazon Alexa is £7.50 per year for one server, not per month, unless I am misunderstanding their pricing ?

No I obviously misread it. For some reason I had that as monthly. Saw it yesterday and discounted it …maybe give it a try and see

I misread the title, thought I could get my alexa to talk to NASA:roll_eyes:
