“Le Cap” has a reputation as a well known venue for all sorts of libertine socializing.

. I last went there in 1979 and it was a real eye opener.
Does inaccurate or non-factual statement constitute for “libertine” or simply ignorance?
Is it just me or are we seeing a steady rise in the number of humourless berks who can’t string a sentence together?

I’ve been there a couple of times, the Musée d’Ephèbe is very interesting and we found a good seafood restaurant.
When people here talk about libertines, are they thinking of the naturist beaches? I’m not sure that’s necessarily the same thing.

I’m not saying it out loud but a few folks know what goes on there that its famous for along this part of the Med. Members of the other side of the French family put us straight about the antics that go on there and they should know wink, wink! Its not naturist beaches either, we have a couple o f those locally anyway.

For those who are interested in facts. My partner moved to Agde 14 months ago. I moved to Agde 3 months ago. My partner works in Cap d’Agde and we both visited places in the area\region. You absolutely can not compare the activity or culture of the Naturist Village to Agde or Cap d’Agde… that’s ignorance.

Ways to find out about clubs (whatever the language) is places like the Mairie and libraries (or Mediateques as they tend to be called these days) also estate agents. Have you tried googling various phrases that might lead you somewhere? eg “newcomers club”.
When we moved here we were very fortunate to find a newcomers club in the local town that had just been set up - the estate agent gave us a flyer. It was not exclusively Brits, there were Dutch, German, French in the group as well but it brought us our closest friendships and we found it a great support network when we were trying to find our feet.
Other English speaking social groups in our area include a couple of lunch clubs, there are also book clubs. Some walking groups maybe international and have Brits as members.

Are you looking for meetups, clubs or socials for you or for your partner?
You might find this list useful. Obviously many will be French but that may be no bad thing while your finding your feet.
I found what worked for me was joining a photo club, because it was a hobby that interested me. So when I was talking to someone who was French we had a mixture of French and English (good practice for both of us) about a topic we had in common.
(Links to the activities I’ve mentioned won’t help you as they are in Lot et Garonne. )
