Nothing in Particular

Singers, and I suspect politicians, learn a technique of diaphragmatic breathing - Appoggio. Useful for presentations at the Mairie.

Lack of pauses can however cause listeners to nod off.

Oh sad. I hope it was a peaceful release.

I don’t think Michael Schumacher is dead, it would seem it is his mentor (and another former racing champion) Jochen Mass, who has died.

Vanessa Felz doesn’t pause and I sometimes feel breathless, on the edge of my seat, waiting for her to take a breath, but she doesn’t! She obviously does but I don’t sense it.

Apparently she’s popular on the public/private speaking events circuit.

Nothing on TF1 about MS.

See Vero’s comment. The way Mass’s death was reported in some parts of the French press could be misinterpreted as a report of the death of Schumaker
himself on a casual skim-read. Vide:

I frequently get ads pop up on Al Jazeera telling me that Cliff Richard is dead or someone is doing something very out of character. I’ve no idea what they hope to gain unless it’s just placing malicious cookies on my browser.

Well, yes, starting the headline with “The F1 world has lost a giant” and with a picture of Schumacher underneath might (mis)lead one to that conclusion rather easily.

I initially thought he’d died a long time ago at Monza, but that was Jochen Rindt. Yet another death at Monza which has a terrible record of accident and death, probably only second to the Nurburgring.

I cannot find a dedicated ‘Health’ thread, so I am posting here this handy UK.gov update on support for mental health for UK residents in France

I subscribe to The Guardian at 50€/annum, and am about to subscribe to the NYT at 20€ for the 1st year, but before I do so, does the NYT reject ad-blocking? Will I have to put up with annoying ads?

My non-premium version of Adblock Plus is very effective with the NYT , but you’ll get one or maybe two unobtrusive ads in the early morning e-mailed summary (which is a handy addition).

Think you’ll enjoy it, contains some fine journalism

Just read a piece by NYT’s David French about Federalist Society Judges not supporting Trump in numerous important rulings, and he says “Most judges have a spine. Members of Congress do not”. My sort of language!

No ads so far - I’m using Chrome’s Adblock free extension, nothing else.

Looking good!

My company has blocked access to deepl :sob:

We’ve deployed our own, internal AI / LLM tool that people must use now, including when needing to translate stuff. This is because the powers that be were worried about intellectual property being shared with public AI sites.

I pity the person that has to review what’s being sent to the AI site… They’re now gonna get a lot of weird sentences being translated into French from me
